Rippling AI coding round left me guessing on the bar
Rippling's phone screen dropped me straight into their AI coding setup, they tell you ahead of time to have something like Cursor ready since it's the default now. Kept it on since opting out apparently just means getting held to the same bar anyway.
Problem was an expense policy engine for a corporate card. First part checks a list of transactions against rules like amount thresholds tied to a vendor type or a flat ban on certain categories, straightforward enough once I parsed the rule format. Second part layered in rules that apply across a whole trip instead of one transaction at a time, so now you're grouping everything by trip and aggregating totals before comparing against a threshold. That's where I started running out of time and the edge cases around optional conditional fields got messy fast.
Interviewer asked how I'd extend it for compound rules with AND OR logic and whether it'd hold up if the volume hit millions, gave a decent answer but didn't finish the second part clean.
Never heard back which honestly tracks, nobody seems to know what their actual bar is here. Wouldn't be shocked if half the rejections are just vibes at this point.
