Meta - Company Culture - E5 SWE, Ads Infra

Time at Company: 8 months

Joined Meta as E5 in Ads infra excited about the scope on paper. Eight months in and I'm already looking elsewhere.

The team match process leaves too much to chance, I got automatched into a project that had basically no measurable impact from day one. Tried pushing for something bigger and got told to be patient while watching peers get pulled onto flashier work.

PSC season made it worse, manager rated me fine but the narrative that actually moves the needle felt completely out of my hands. If you're coming in as a lateral hire, ask hard questions about the team before you sign anything.

PSC is such a black box honestly, the manager rating never seems to matter as much as whatever narrative gets written up top.

Yeah that was exactly it, felt like the actual work barely factored in once it hit calibration.

Curious if you tried pushing through your skip level or just your direct manager? Sometimes going up a level helps with project reassignment.

Automatch really is a coin flip, I got lucky my first team but heard plenty of horror stories like this.

Sorry that happened, hope the next place gives you an actual say in scope.

This tracks with what a friend on Ads told me too, seems like impact visibility is a real struggle there right now.
