Uber full loop, rejected after 5 rounds

Just wrapped up the full Uber loop, five rounds total, wanted to write up the questions since I don't see this exact combo posted much.

OA was the usual two HackerRank problems, camera on the whole time. One was the magnetic plates union find thing, group plates in the same row or column within some distance and count how many collection operations it takes. The other was a binary search on answer problem, maximizing pipeline throughput under a budget constraint, brute force TLEs immediately so you have to find the monotonic property fast.

Phone screen was LC 1438, longest subarray with the absolute difference limit, solved it with a monotonic deque and then spent a good chunk of time walking through why brute force doesn't cut it and how you get to the better solution.

VO had two coding rounds. One was the first unique number problem with a follow up asking for the Nth unique instead, straightforward once you see the doubly linked list plus hashmap combo. The other was more of a concurrency hybrid, a time limited counter that needed to handle high QPS with multithreading, and this is where I ran into trouble. Got the single threaded version working fine but the concurrent version needed proper locking around the sliding window. Couldn't complete it in time.

System design was the ride hailing matching system, real time driver location updates at scale, geospatial matching, and how to avoid double matching the same driver during a race condition. Deep dive was standard project presentation, 25 minutes of slides then questions.

Heard back about a week later, got the classic move with other candidate line. No specific feedback beyond that, which is on brand for how this whole process goes.

at least you got past the OA and phone screen clean, that's more than a lot of people can say
