OpenAI phone screen through onsite, still no word back
OpenAI phone screen through onsite, still no word back
Just wrapped up the full OpenAI loop, five rounds counting the phone screen, and I am sitting here refreshing my email for the third day straight.
Background is I am about 6 YOE at a mid-size infra shop, wanted to see what the market looks like before I get too comfortable. Phone screen was 45 minutes and the whole thing came down to one problem. You get handed a sorted list of version strings like 103.3.2 and told a feature got added somewhere in there, and once a version has it every version after that has it too. You have an API that just tells you true or false if a given version supports the feature, and you need to find the earliest one that does while calling the API as few times as possible. Felt obvious once binary search clicked, but the follow up flipped it on me. Same setup except support is not globally monotonic anymore, it is grouped, so a major version group might have the feature buried somewhere in the middle and you cannot assume everything after it does too. Took me a minute to see you basically binary search each level, major then minor then patch, instead of the whole list at once.
Onsite had the usual Sora scheduling design and a behavioral round that felt more like a vibe check than anything technical. Nobody has given me a timeline and recruiter has gone quiet. Anyone else had the wait drag this long after onsite, or should I start worrying.

sora sd feels like it's basically standard now, seen it mentioned a lot recently
How long after onsite did they usually get back to you before? Mine took like 3 weeks last round.
Kickoff call said 1 to 2 weeks but recruiters always say that lol, we'll see
quiet recruiter doesn't always mean bad news, hang in there
the hierarchical version check follow up sounds nasty, did you get any hints or fully solve it cold
fully cold, he just let me talk through it and nodded along
wow! that's a tricky one. what language did you use? hate dealing with strings in c++
what's the coding problem during onsite?
thanks for sharing, probably send an emails following up saying I had other offer's deadline coming?
