Interview Questions & Experience

I recently completed the interview process for a contract backend Software Engineer position at Robinhood. I’m intentionally keeping the interview content high-level because of confidentiality requirements.

The process included an initial screening followed by a project deep dive. The project discussion focused broadly on my past experience, technical ownership, architectural decisions, production challenges, collaboration and lessons learned. It was conversational, with follow-ups intended to understand the depth of my involvement rather than just the technologies involved.

A few days later, the recruiter told me that I had moved into team matching, where engineering managers with open positions review candidate profiles. I was then invited to a 30-minute hiring manager conversation.

The hiring manager round covered my general career progression, relevant backend experience and a project I was proud of. The manager also explained the team’s work, expectations for contractors, onboarding approach and how responsibilities could grow over time. The conversation felt reasonably positive, and the role appeared closely aligned with my background, but I have not received a final decision yet.

For anyone who has recently gone through Robinhood’s team-matching process:

  • How long did it take to receive an update after the hiring manager round?
  • If the first team decides not to proceed, does Robinhood normally arrange another hiring manager conversation?
  • Or does rejection from the first manager usually end the candidacy?
  • Is the process different for contract positions compared with full-time positions?
  • Did the update come directly from Robinhood or through the staffing agency?

What did they cover in the coding and system design rounds? Any specifics?

I didn’t had live coding round or system design round. I did had a coderpad OA which was completely based on GoLang.
