Uber phone screen, got the "move with other candidates" email
Applied via LinkedIn after spending two weeks grinding monotonic deque problems specifically because I knew Uber loved that pattern. Phone screen was 30 min, got asked the sliding window with absolute diff limit question. Honestly felt pretty good about my solution, explained the optimization from O(n^2) down to O(n) with a monotonic deque, interviewer seemed fine.
Then four days later: "We've decided to move with other candidates." No feedback, nothing.
3 YOE, been targeting mid-level roles. Not sure what I missed tbh. Back to grinding I guess.

3 YOE targeting mid-level at Uber is already ambitious. Their bar for that level is legitimately high. Don't read too much into one screen.
Fair point. Maybe I needed to nail the optimization trajectory more explicitly instead of just arriving at the O(n) solution.
The phone is usually just a bar check. If they don't move you forward the feedback is basically nonexistent. It's frustrating but pretty common.
Did you write test cases during the screen? I heard Uber is strict about that in VO but not sure about phone.
I did write a couple test cases, yeah. Covered the basic edge cases. Interviewer didn't say anything either way.
That exact phrasing is so cold. I got it too after what I thought was a decent screen. Never any specifics.
