Amazon - 3 years in and starting to look

Been at Amazon 3 years. Good caliber team, real ownership, comp is solid.

The moment I knew I was done: project I'd been building for 8 months got reorged out of our org. Not cancelled - just handed to another team. We had no say. I found out in a Slack message.

That's the moment I started to silently boil over. It wasn't the loudest thing that ever happened to me at Amazon. But it was the clearest.

I'm not rage-quitting. I'll do good work while I'm here. But I've got conversations happening.

If anyone has done Amazon to Microsoft or Amazon to Google recently and has thoughts on the jump, open to hearing it.

Microsoft is worth considering if WLB matters. comp is competitive at L63-L64 range and the culture is genuinely different

3 years of good work and finding out via Slack is not a systems failure. that's a management failure

the slack message reorg is a very specific kind of Amazon pain. sorry that happened

Amazon to Google is a significant culture shift. the ownership culture is real - you might miss it more than you expect

yeah I've heard that. willing to find out tbh. 3 years was enough to learn that Amazon-style ownership can also mean Amazon-style control
