Google - Company Culture - L4 SWE Time at Company: 8 months Left Amazon about a year ago and came to Google. Was SDE2 at Amazon, now L4 here. The technical environment is genuinely good. The infrastructure is impressive and the tooling is years ahead of what I had. Smart people everywhere. But the work itself feels hollow in a way I didn't expect. People do work just to show off they know things rather than because it has impact. Performance reviews reward complexity and visibility over outcomes...

The visibility vs impact tension at Google is real and well documented. 8 months is early though — teams vary a lot.

Fair. The oncall and COE stuff at Amazon was brutal. I don't miss that part at all.
