Amazon - Company Culture - Software Engineer Time at Company: 18 months The oncall alone almost got me. 3am pages for systems nobody had touched in years. You'd fix something, document it, two weeks later same page. The part that made me silently boil over was watching scoped-down projects get handed off right before the interesting work started. Always "bandwidth reasons." Team was good. Comp was good. But the machine isn't built for people who want to own the end result.

oncall quality depends heavily on org. some teams have decent runbooks

the project handoff thing happens constantly. you do the hard parts then it gets taken before you get credit
