This matches what I've seen too. The offer letter number is basically a marketing number at this point, not what you're actually making by year 3.
Yeah and recruiters know it. They walk you through the year one TC and never mention what year two looks like unless you ask directly.
The offer letter is the trailer, year two is the movie.
Had a friend go through this exact thing at a different company with front loaded equity. Loved the job, hated opening the vesting schedule in year two.
Eh I think this is overblown. If the WLB is real then a lower base in year two is a fair trade, not everyone is optimizing purely for TC.
Right, my point isn't that WLB is bad. It's that people post the offer letter number like it's the steady state number and it just isn't.
