Just finished the HRT Algo Dev phone screen. Wanted to share for anyone prepping. They gave me a simulation problem: 1D array, N players moving right at 1 unit/time, watcher starts at some position and reverses direction at given timestamps. Goal was to count how many players reach position L by end time T. Problem was stated verbally, no shared doc, so I had to write it down as he spoke. Had the same problem a few months back. The continuous followup is where most people fall apart. Did you at least talk through the segment-based approach before time ran out?

Can you share more about the watcher reversal logic? Were the timestamps sorted or unsorted when given?

Timestamps were unsorted, had to sort them first. I mentioned segmenting by reversal intervals for the continuous version but never got to code it. Interviewer seemed okay with the verbal explanation but I think running out of time hurt.

HRT problems are brutal for implementation under time pressure. 30 min is not enough for edge cases on top of simulation. Sorry it didn't work out.
