1💳 What is a payment processor?Chapter 1

A payment processor is a service that sits between merchants (shops, restaurants, retailers) and downstream credit card networks (Visa, Mastercard, American Express). When a customer swipes or taps their card, the payment processor receives the transaction request, forwards it to the appropriate network for authorization, and later settles the actual funds in a nightly batch.
